A size for large continuous planes: walls in spacious rooms and open-plan ceilings. The wider the blade, the fewer joins between passes — and the less sanding afterwards. The trade-off is technique: 80 cm has to be drawn evenly, otherwise the edge of the blade leaves a mark that shows under side lighting.
On a wide blade stiffness is critical: thin steel over that length bows under pressure and copies the substrate. The half-millimetre blade holds a straight line across the full width, which is why it is used for the levelling coat. The 0.3 mm blade in this width is for spreading thin over an already trued plane.
